So, when Jesus gave his Holy Spirit to the early church and apostles, with His presence and power came the ability to do miracles in his name. In Acts 3 we see that Jesus power is present with his church and that his power can heal anyone and anything, even the lame from birth.

We see in this story how Peter boldly put his Spiritual gifts to work for the Lord. Peter recognized that he had an opportunity to glorify God, and he took it! So must we! The Bible says that all of us have been blessed with our own set of Spiritual gifts.

We are all helpless because of sin, just as the lame man was helpless, until we know God by faith in Jesus Christ. God gives us power by his Holy Spirit to obey him, to love people, and to ask for good things in Jesus' name. When we ask in faith, as believers, God answers the prayers we ask according to his will.

Peter Heals in Jerusalem

Shaped by narratives, the story of Acts 3:1-10 is built around Peter's and John's life of prayer and the Jerusalem church's performance in terms of healing a crippled and nameless beggar (Acts 3:1-11).

One was called the “Beautiful Gate,” and a miracle took place there after Jesus' ascension. On an ordinary day, two disciples showed the world who the Savior is and, in the process, revealed what it means to let Christ live through us. Submitting to Jesus doesn't erase who we are; in fact, it makes us all we can be.

That was what happened when Peter and John healed the lame man. “When all the people saw him walking and praising God, they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him” (Acts 3:9-10, NIV).

This story begins with Peter and John going to the temple to pray at the ninth hour (approximately 3 pm), referred to as “the hour of prayer”. We consider the ancient Christian custom of praying multiple times during the day, and how those hours relate to the Passion of Christ.

It says here that the lame man was laid daily at the temple to beg money from those going in to worship. This must have been going on a for long time, because Acts 4:22 says he was over 40 years old. Jesus must have passed by him many times, and the man almost certainly knew who Jesus was.

The Healing of the Lame Man (Acts 3: 1 – 8)

At the temple, Peter and John healed a man lame since birth. Peter testified that the man was healed by faith in the name of Jesus Christ. He preached that Christ would return in “the times of restitution of all things.” He taught that Moses and all the prophets prophesied of the ministry of Christ.
