Editorial policy

Short, because the policy is short: nothing here is written for money, and nothing here describes a product.

Responsibility

Pages are written and signed by the desk collectively. There is no named individual behind a byline here and no invented professional biography, because a reference of this kind does not need one and an invented one would be a lie the reader cannot check. Responsibility for an error rests with the publication, and an error is corrected in place and dated, as described in sources and method.

Commercial arrangements

This publication describes no named product, ranks nothing, recommends no supplier and carries no advertising. It has no commercial relationship with any manufacturer of the parts it describes, including the company whose name this domain carries, whose position is set out on the about page. If that ever changes, the change will be stated on the page it affects, before the page is read.

Links out of this site point to standards bodies, to manufacturers' own documentation, and to the site of the company a reader may be looking for. They are given because they help the reader reach a source, not because of any arrangement. A link is never presented as an endorsement of a product.

Every photograph on this site is an illustrative scene. None of them documents a real device, a real instrument reading or a real test result, and no caption is written to suggest that one does. Where a page describes an instrument display, the description comes from the definition of the measurement, not from the picture beside it.
